Sleep Studies

(H (As you think about how you sleep, you may suspect that you have a sleep disorder. A sleep specialist can confirm if you have made the right conclusion. He or she can make a careful and detailed medical evaluation to find the source of your sleep problem. One of the best tools for detecting a sleep disorder is the overnight sleep study. Sensors are used to monitor many physical measurements, including your brain waves, heartbeats and breathing during sleep. Your sleep study provides doctors with the data that will help them find the cause of your sleep problem.

Overnight Sleep Study
This is called a polysomnogram. It is most often used to find out if someone has a sleep related breathing disorder including sleep apnea. It is also used to help detect or rule out a variety of other sleep disorders.

CPAP/BiPAP Study
This study is used to set the right air pressure for PAP(positive airway pressure) therapy in patients with sleep apnea.

Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT)
A home sleep test can detect obstructive sleep apnea in adults. It involves the use of a portable-monitoring system for you to use at home.

Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT)
This sleep study is used to measure how alert you are during the day. It shows whether or not you are able to stay awake for a defined period of time.

Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
This is called a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT). This is mainly used to in the diagnosis of narcolepsy. It charts how quickly you fall asleep during quiet daytime situations. It also measures how fast you enter the stage of REM sleep.

Although there are many sleep centers in the area, we work primarily with Total Sleep Management. They offer private rooms, testing throughout the week and have several locations. You may have studies completed in a hospital or an independent diagnostic testing facility.
